Entry-level tech jobs in India: where to find them and how to apply as a fresher
Where off-campus software jobs for freshers come from, why applying early matters, and how to handle the resume and form questions with little experience.
By Tushar Soni, founder of Lazee.dev
If you are graduating without a campus offer, or want something better than the one you have, the off-campus search can feel like shouting into a void: hundreds of applicants per opening, postings that turn out to want three years of experience, and portals that never reply. Most of that comes down to where you look and how fast you apply. This guide covers both.
Where entry-level tech roles in India come from
- Product companies and global tech firms with engineering offices in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Gurgaon and Chennai. Many of them run graduate or early-career hiring through their own careers site.
- Startups, which hire freshers for range and speed and often move fastest from application to offer.
- Remote roles at international companies that hire in India. Fewer of these are entry level, but they exist, and the remote jobs guide covers how to filter for them.
Search the source, not the reposts
A posting copied onto a job site three times is the same job, often already closed. The company’s own careers page (usually run on Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workday or similar) is where the current list lives. The Lazee job board reads those pages directly every 12 hours, so a closed role disappears on the next refresh. These pages are the usual starting points:
- Entry level jobs in India
- Internships in India
- Remote jobs in India
- All tech jobs in India
- Jobs in Bangalore
The board labels a job entry level from words in its title such as “Junior”, “New Grad”, “Graduate”, “Associate” or “Engineer I”. Plenty of postings without those words also take freshers, so it is worth searching mid-level roles that ask for 0–2 years too.
Apply in the first few days
Many companies review applications as they arrive and stop when they have enough candidates for interviews. An application on day two is read by someone with energy; one on day twenty may never be opened. The board shows when it last refreshed, and you can save postings (up to 300) to come back to the same day.
A resume for someone without much experience
- One page. Projects and internships first, then education, then skills.
- Projects are your experience. Write them like jobs: what it does, what you built, the stack, and a number (users, latency, a hackathon placing).
- Internships count, even short ones. Say what you shipped, not what the team did.
- Use the posting’s words. If it asks for Java and Spring Boot and you used them, those exact words should appear in a bullet, not only in the skills list. The guide to tailoring a resume shows how to do this in ten minutes.
- Add your CGPA if it is good or the posting asks for it; many Indian application forms will ask anyway.
The form questions freshers get
- Notice period: if you are not employed, “Immediate” or 0 days. It is an advantage; say it clearly.
- Current CTC: 0 if you have never had a salaried job. An internship stipend is not a CTC unless the form asks for it.
- Expected CTC: research what the company pays new graduates and give a number in that range. The guide to expected CTC and notice period questions goes through each field.
- Graduation year and degree: exactly as on your certificate.
Show your work in one link
With little work history, your projects do most of the convincing, and a reviewer is more likely to click one link than five. A developer portfolio with your projects, screenshots, GitHub links and resume in one place is that link. Every Lazee account gets one free at lazee.dev/u/yourname.
Apply to more roles in less time
Volume matters for a first job, and retyping the same details on every form is where the time goes. The Lazee extension fills names, contact details, education, projects, links, notice period and CTC from your profile on Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workday and other career sites, free and without limits, and attaches your resume. The autofill guide shows the setup. The free ATS match score tells you before applying whether a role’s required skills are ones you have.
Spend the saved time on the interview.
Profile autofill is free and unlimited. Install the extension, fill your profile once, and the next application takes a few clicks.
